"Quantum Computing: a brief introduction"

Abstract:

I first heard of Quantum Computing in 1996, and that time, its promises felt more like hype than reality. Although there is still a lot of hype, a large variety of algorithms do exist at the theoretical level and some have been implemented on simulators. Hardware made tremendous strides in the past 20 years, and several quantum computers available to the community at large for experimentation. Depending on the hardware, the number of Qbits ranges from 50 to 2000. In this talk, I will present an introduction to quantum computing and contrast it to classical serial computing. Finally, I will present my own opinion as to the potential offered by quantum computers today and in the future.
