Abstract:

High-Performance Computing is paramount to modern research. Today, a great deal of science, engineering, social science and even humanities work is carried out through simulation and data analysis on ever larger computers using ever larger data sets. In many cases, desktops and personal workstations are simply not sufficient to perform and scale the workloads of modern research. In this talk, we will discuss how the Research Computing Center at FSU enables research and facilitates the scaling of that research to ever larger and more complex problems. We will showcase several examples of how RCC has helped facilitate research projects that would not have been possible otherwise. We will discuss the basic operation of the Research Computing Center along with the basics of how to access and use the Research Computing Center's HPC facilities and services. We will also discuss various resources available on campus for getting training in HPC and related Computing-Centric subjects.
