Abstract:
Reconstructing the sequence of an entire genome from DNA sequence data can be a very difficult computational problem, especially when the genome being assembled is large and repetitive. Here I report on the attempts made to reconstruct the genome of Pseudacris feriarum, the upland chorus frog. The upland chorus frog has become an important system for studying speciation, and future work depends on having a well-resolved genome. After presenting results obtained using existing, state-of-the-art assemblers, I outline a new approach to genome assembly that has the potential to improve genome assembly for large, complex genomes.
