SC Assistant Professor Alan Lemmon received one of only six awards through FSU’s biannual Grant Assistance Program (GAP). Lemmon’s project, Cutting DNA Sequencing Costs for Biologists, received $15,000 in funding. Lemmon project is designed to refine DNA sequencing technology that allows researchers to map the key differences between genomes of different animal species quickly and inexpensively. This technology would significantly reduce the cost and time to understand evolutionary differences among species, and the hereditary traits that allowed them to survive.

The GAP program awards $250,000 in grant assistance to help move discoveries from the lab to the commercial marketplace. For more information about the program, go to www.research.fsu.edu/foundation/gap.
